A Storytelling Workshop
with professional dancer Ava Girard
and musician-storyteller Jack DesBois
and musician-storyteller Jack DesBois
Join professional dancer Ava Girard and musician/storyteller Jack DesBois on a journey through the world of Aesop’s Fables! In this workshop, students ages 8 to 14 will discover—and become—the wily fox and conceited crow, the patient tortoise and hurrying hare, and a whole menagerie of colorful characters while learning how to tell stories using body and movement. Ava and Jack will guide students through creative dance exercises and games that introduce Aesop’s fantastic world and teach students the tools to invent their own storytelling dance performances.
Ava Girard received intensive training in ballet, contemporary, and modern dance during her teen years at various studios in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, then continued her training in New York City, where she also performed with the Rioult Repertory Training Program and the Mark Morris Dance Group. She now is a member of NSquared Dance Company of Manchester, NH; teaches dance and body conditioning at several local studios; and choreographs her own work. |
Jack DesBois is a professional actor, musician, storyteller, and educator with six years’ experience teaching performing arts—ranging from Shakespeare to musical theatre—to students ages 8 to 21. He leads the enrichment programming portion of his family’s educational service DesBois Tutoring & Enrichment, based in Topsfield, MA. |
